Check This Out: New NIAAA Web-Based Resource - Native Communities: Alcohol Intervention Review (NativeAIR)

NativeAIR contains reviews of evidence-based alcohol interventions for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) and other Indigenous communities from published, peer-reviewed studies. NativeAIR highlights 39 total interventions organized into three areas: prevention interventions for fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, prevention interventions for alcohol misuse, and treatment interventions for alcohol use disorder.

NativeAIR was developed to provide Tribal and community leaders, educators, health professionals, and others with research-based information that they can use in their efforts to reduce the adverse impact of alcohol in their communities. Click below to learn more!

2025 MBI Accelerator Program Award Recipients

The McKnight Brain Institute (MBI) Accelerator Program Awards support novel and impactful research projects that align with the MBI's mission to enhance lives through neuroscience and neuromedicine research. The MBI Accelerator Program selected 23 projects for seed-funding awards, with the following UF CARE members selected:
Dr. Stefanie Bodison; "Vestibular processing in children with SNHL (Sensorineural Hearing Loss)"

Dr. Natalie Ebner; "High frequency sensory flicker stimulation for enhancing behavior and brain function in aging and Alzheimer's disease"

Dr. Amanda Elton; "Effects of methylphenidate modulation of attention on neural responses to alcohol cues"

Drs. Barry Setlow (PI) and Nikhil Urs (Co-I); “Dopamine signaling of reward and punishment during risky decision making; effects of GLP-1 agonist administration.”

Congratulations to co-inventors Dr. Dan Wesson and PhD candidate Maria Ramirez for having a patent pending on a surgical device to achieve chronic delivery of drugs into the nose of behaving animal models titled "Intranasal Infusion Device for Animals and Associated Methods".
 
 

Nicole Fitzgerald, PhD

Two first-authored articles by UF CARE alumnus Dr. Nicole Fitzgerald (mentor: Dr. Linda Cottler) have been featured in Psychology Today's Top Findings on Addiction in 2024 and Top 10 Addiction Research Articles of 2024! Ranked #6 in Top Findings on Addiction in 2024, Fitzgerald et al.'s study on polysubstance use (PSU) patterns sheds critical light on the ongoing evolution of the opioid crisis. Co-authors include UF CARE alumni Drs. Yiyang Liu and Anna Wang and UF CARE Members Drs. Linda Cottler, Lori Knackstedt, Barry Setlow, and Catherine Striley. Ranked #10 in Top 10 Addiction Research Articles of 2024, a collaborative review led by the National Drug Early Warning System (NDEWS) team highlights the critical role of public health surveillance in addressing emerging drug threats.
 
 

Nae Won, PhD

Congratulations to Dr. Nae Won, a UF CARE alumnus, (mentor: Dr. Linda Cottler)! Dr. Won was recently matched to the CDC Division of Injury Prevention, within the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, as a CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer (Class of 2025), where she will move from her current T32 postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University.
