DIRECTOR'S COMMENTS
We’re tired of it. Our struggles with the mute button are legendary. We relish the ability to feign interest and multi-task without discovery and avoid the personal investment required to actually physically move. In short, we can “attend” without “fully attending to”. As time has passed, we’ve grown increasingly comfortable at our standing desks walking on the treadmill and/or reclining in our office chairs with our feet on our desk. I admit, first thing I look for on a flyer is whether there is a ZOOM link… THEN I review the remaining details. September marked our return to F2F for internal speakers. As expected, there were grumbles about “hiking uphill in the snow”, mitigated by enthusiasm for the cookies. Our speaker did a GREAT job (Thank You, Dr. Murphy). But I take particular note of the event that followed the lecture. A participant approached the speaker, shared the fact that they were doing similar work...AND WITH THAT F2F exchange, the possibility of a new collaboration was born! UF CARE’s mission in action. Seriously isn’t it great? Although unlikely that I’ll physically attend every meeting with a ZOOM option [Come'on, really?], I will think on this single event and be reminded of the gain associated with “fully attending to”. And while I have your attention (yes, lame), check out this month’s installment for information about nominating your staff for membership, member achievements (including a baby “Berey”), and essential details regarding our Legacy Lecture on Oct. 12th. As we shared previously, we are delighted to welcome Dr. Rueben Gonzales’ return to UF and are excited to provide access to his lecture to our distant as well as local audiences! Finally, to satisfy that nagging curiosity, participants in the ZOOM meeting above are identified at the CONCLUSION of the newsletter!
Guess I better rise from my chair and actually walk to a meeting,
SJN
